Lift, Escalator and Travellator Renewal Project

In January 2022 Network Rail High Speed (NRHS) started a three-year project to renew our lifts, escalators and travellators to make moving through our stations easier and safer for our passengers.

In Summer 2021, we awarded a contract to Schindler to renew 23 lifts, escalators and travellators across the three stations.

The work started in January 2022 and will run through until March 2025, across the three NRHS managed stations – London St Pancras International, Stratford International and Ebbsfleet. The work will ensure their future reliability for people passing through and has been carefully planned to ensure our passengers can still access all public areas and platforms to get where they need to go.

St. Pancras International has four main rail services from the station – Eurostar, East Midlands Railway, Southeastern and Thameslink, all of which will remain accessible throughout the works.

Duration of Work

  • Escalators will be taken out of service for a duration of circa 4 months.
  • Lifts and travellator will be taken out of service for a duration of circa 4 months.
  • For details on works in each station, please see below.

Benefits

Our number one priority is keeping our passengers safe and helping them get where they need to go. That means we need reliable lifts, escalators and travellators in all our managed stations. This project will extend the lifespan of the existing escalators, lifts and travellators by at least 10 years, ensuring the stations remain fully accessible and passengers enjoy a positive experience on their travels.
