Improving our railway in the Southern region
In the Southern region, we have an enormous challenge to not only maintain the 3,300 miles of existing railway infrastructure but also to upgrade it to the latest standards and wherever we can, improve it for the future.
Some of our lines and stations are the oldest in the world with their own unique challenges.
We need to maintain safety of the network, replace worn out parts, improve sections to be more efficient and upgrade the technology, materials and systems in use. We do all of this while also increasing the capacity of our lines and stations, particularly concentrating our efforts on the most congested pinch-points in the region.
