Oxfordshire level crossings

We are developing plans to replace Tackley level crossing with a new bridleway and a footbridge with lifts for station users.

We have submitted a Transport and Works Act Order for the permanent closure of Tackley level crossing after it was closed under emergency measures in 2020. A Public Inquiry was held to allow objectors to present their evidence. The Department for Transport will present the findings of the Inquiry in the coming months.

Our plans to close Sandy Lane and Yarnton Lane level crossings have been deferred due to the impacts the pandemic and recession have had on freight growth through this section of the railway. We will continue to monitor freight demand through this corridor over the coming years to establish when intervention is required.

The safety of the public remains a key priority and we will continue to monitor, inspect and risk assess these level crossings.
