The Freight Safety Improvement Programme (FSIP) is a multi-million-pound fund dedicated to enhancing safety for rail freight and the wider rail network.

What does the Freight Safety Improvement Programme offer the rail industry?

FSIP funds projects which enhance safety and improve efficiency in freight operations. For example:

• Freight Loads Books Digitisation: digitising the documentation used by operators, signallers, timetable planners, and other vital teams to increase efficiency and improve accuracy of data.
• Uneven Freight Wagon Loading Monitoring using AIVR: collecting video at freight wagon loading sites to identify potential issues with freight wagons before they enter the network, improving safety and reducing premature fleet degradation.

Who can apply for FSIP funding?

Freight operators, passenger operators, end users, and Network Rail regions, routes or central functions can all apply for funding.
