We’re getting ready for £83m of upgrades this Easter bank holiday.
A total of 530 upgrade projects between Friday 15 April to Monday 18 April will help us improve the railway for you.
Most of the railway will stay open as usual but the works will affect some areas. Please check before you travel with National Rail Enquiries or with your train operator. You can also follow #EasterRailWorks on Twitter.
We also ask that you please remember to wear a face covering as a courtesy to others when travelling.
Eastern region
The Eastern region runs from the borders of Scotland to London.
At Bishops Strotford, Hertfordshire, we’ll renew switches and crossings – movable sections of track that guide trains from one track to another. We will also carry out station improvements at Hertford East.
This set of works will improve the reliability of services on the Anglia route and increase capacity at Hertford East station by giving you more space.
This is part of the £1.2b East Coast Main Line project to give you more trains and quicker journeys along the East Coast Main Line.
North West and Central region
The North West and Central region runs all the way from London Euston to Scotland’s Railway, via the Midlands and North West of England.
Our teams will carry out switches and crossing renewals at London Euston and Watford North Junction. This will allow trains to run more efficiently and give you a safer and more reliable service.
We’ll also carry out major track upgrades between London Euston and Watford North Junction as part of the construction of HS2 – the high speed railway that will run from London to the Midlands and the North of England. Further HS2 preparation will take place at Hampton-in-Arden.
Meanwhile, bridge renewals at Coventry South Junction will improve service reliability.
This package of work is a crucial part of our West Coast Main Line project to improve services for you and freight services.
Southern region
The Southern region runs from Devon in the West of England to Kent in the East.
We’ll update the signals – the traffic lights of the railway – and switches and crossing at Clapham Junction, Britain’s busiest interchange railway station. This work will improve the safety and reliability of your journeys on the Sussex route.
Our teams will also upgrade the concourse and several platforms at Gatwick Airport station to improve capacity and reduce congestion.
Wales and Western region
Our Wales and Western region serves communities and businesses of Wales, the Thames Valley, West of England and the South West Peninsula.
We’ll upgrade track in the Llanhilleth area, South Wales. This is part of the multi-million-pound upgrade to the Ebbw Vale Line to increase services between Newport and Ebbw Vale railway stations.
